I want a big boy
Do you know what that means? That means it is time for all the fat boys to shine. No more being self conscious and trying to hide. Means it is time to flaunt it!
So for all the big boys, how are we gonna capture Sza this cuffing season. Well let's start with the beard. We gotta stand out ok so we are gonna begin by seeing what beard style will look good on the fat guys
SO LETS BEGIN WITH ANSWERING THE BURNING QUESTIONS
CAN A BEARD SLIM YOUR FACE
YES- with proper styling, sculpting and shaping of your beard
HOW?
Well this all comes down to how you choose to style your beard.
So let’s get into it
TECHNIQUES TO MAKE YOUR FACE LOOK THINNER
-
REGULARLY TRIMMING OF YOUR BEARD
By trimming your beard and knowing where to trim your beard is very important. It’s important to sculpt your beard. Having your beard growing without proper grooming and having it end up looking scraggly can have a counter effect on your face and end up making your face look rounder
-
KEEP YOUR SIDEBURNS SHORT
Check out this article insert article where we talk about the importance of keeping the sides of your beard short to create a thinning effect
-
TRIM YOUR NECKLINE SO IT STAYS LOOKING CLEAN
Make sure to keep your neckline looking clean whilst at the same time making sure that the hair below the jawline remains long. By keeping the hair on your chin long and the hair below the jawline long it helps thin your face and create more proportion and length to the face, counteracting with the width of the face. You also should trim the neckline nice and clean so that you can create a more defined angular look.
-
KEEP YOUR BEARD STRAIGHT
When growing a beard, keeping the beard scraggly and not properly brushing or straightening your beard can actually make you look wider. Especially on your sideburns! Look lets just show you some examples:
Look at the difference between the two. Like wow! On the left when the beard was not straightened the face looks so much wider than when the beard was straightened.
Lets show you a second example:
And another one:
You see what I’m saying now
Here’s the next thing you’re probably wondering about:
WHAT ARE SOME BEARD STYLES I CAN TRY?
Well firstly let's go through the criteria you should be looking for when growing and styling a beard:
- Length: you need to make sure your beard has length; especially in the chin area
- Short sideburns: the beard style you choose must have short sides/ sideburns
- A defined neckline to give your jawline more shape
HERE ARE SOME STYLES YOU CAN LOOK INTO
-
DUCKTAIL BEARD
The ducktail beard is perfect for the fat guy.
- It has longer chin hair than the rest of the beard,
- The sides kept short helping you elongate your face. This helps you thin your face as the long beard hair gives your face more length whilst the short hair on the sides don’t give the face any extra width.
- As the ducktail beard has a perfect 45 degree angle creating a more defined jawline
Literally all three criterias are ticked
This certain beard usually takes around 8 months to grow. Honestly to shape and maintain this beard we do recommend you going to the barbershop to have it shaped and maintained as it is a hard beard style to sculpt
-
ANY KIND OF POINTY BEARDS
Here’s a few examples of different types of pointy beards
The pointy beard AKA the devil’s beard is basically growing a beard that looks triangular meaning
- The chin hair is longer and shaped to be pointy
- The sides are trimmed neatly
- A very defined neckline that comes with the nature of the beard
Once again this beard is fat guy approved! Definitely a beard made for the big boys!
-
GARIBALDI BEARD
This beard has more of an obtuse/ rounded beard shape where:
- The sides are shorter
- The chin/jaw area has longer hair
- Has a defined neckline
The longer nature of the beard creates more vertical height to your face. Although the beard is not pointy but rather rounded by nature the sides of the face are short meaning that it won’t create more width to the face. This beard style tends to be 2-6 inches long which requires some time to grow. We also recommend that you should frequently visit the barber to help you sculpt and shape your beard

THE HOLLYWOODIAN
Leonardo Dicaprio is a good example of The Hollywoodian. Leonardo Dicaprio is not necessarily chubby but rather has a round face which is really what most fat guys try to combat. The Hollywoodian is very similar to the full classic beard but rather than having the high cheekline like classic beard, it has a lower cheek line which is honestly a good alternative for people who struggle with growing hair on the cheeks.
- The sides are usually kept short or clean shaven
- The jawline/ neckline and chin tend to have longer hair
- Also a sharp bold angle
Many people mistaken this style as a chinstrap but it isn't as it is longer at the bottom and goes up the cheeks as shown in the example above
This helps add some length to the face creating more proportion to the face
-
BOXED BEARD
The boxed beard is as the name suggests boxy in nature meaning that the beard is more angular in shape.
- The sides are neatly trimmed and kept short to keep a boxy look
- Once again angular neckline
- The length is versatile can be grown at whatever length you desire
The boxed beard is a good option as the boxiness and angularity reduces the roundness of the face.
-
VAN DYKE BEARD
Once again using Leonardo DiCaprio here haha. Lets compare the two images. In the image on the left he looks slimmer and his face looks more proportionate whereas on the right his face looks shorter and rounder.
Why’s that?
The Van Dyke
- Has long pointy chin hair
- ‘You can choose whether you want to grow hair on the face it is up to you
The long chin hair helps elongate the face. It brings more length to the face which is what chubby cheeks lack. Chubby cheeks tend to have more width than length to the face causing disproportion. Which is where the pointiness and the length of the Van Dyke beard can create more length.
